Listened to using BorrowBox through my local library!

A light brown wicker table centers the photo with a phone atop. The phone lies on a pair of blue wireless headphones and shows the audio book cover for Stay Strong by Audrey Dean in the BorrowBox app.

TW: Mental health discussion

This book was a short and easy-to-pass-the-time read. It wasn't particularly spectacular nor did it fall under the category of catatonically tedious. It didn't bring about any new information in terms of how to handle mental health, but it did offer a sprinkle of guidance on how to understand negative emotions. Following the mantra of giving in to your emotions instead of blocking them, Audrey Dean encourages her readers to take a stand and accept their negativity as a part of themselves rather than something to shun away in shame.

These negative emotions often coexist with an array of thoughts and behaviours, "I'm ugly", "no one likes me", "nothing I do will ever be good enough" (some thoughts can I can relate to and admit to falling into their trap), and, as Audrey Dean shares a passion for, these negative emotions have to be embraced. It is something I am still learning and hoped the shower of positivity this book rains would teach me the tools to do so.

There are not a lot of comments I can make on this book. The lessons were not something I had newly come across, a lot of them are repeated teachings from psychology scholars or even words quoted often by self-acclaimed YouTube self-care experts. This book does offer a lovely guide on how to look after yourself. How to grow with your emotions and use them to show you the best path in life.

Some sections offer the tools of relationships and how to rekindle a relationship with a long lost friend. It focuses plenty on the regret of chances never taken due to wallowing in a sea of negative vibes. It focuses on the ways to turn around the bad and create something special out of it by asking yourself: why am I feeling this way? Am I really mad at this person or am I really mad at myself? and lastly, what can I do to feel better?

From reading this you become accountable for your own actions. Learning to stay strong and survive your own struggles and blossom into the butterfly we are all meant to be. Symbolism and metaphors aside, this book is a lovely and heartfelt guide. It is the perfect companion for those looking for a little boost in their life.
