Review: She Felt Like Feeling Nothing by R. H. Sin

A collection was written by a fantastic male poet hoping to encapsulate female emotions.

Dates read: 13/11/21 to 14/11/21

Star rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

Word to describe: Reflective

Genre: Poetry

She Felt Like Feeling Nothing is a lovely example of poetry written with care. Each poem, each stanza, and each verse are well thought out and offer an insight into heartbreak. I was genuinely surprised to find out the poet of this collection was male, I truly believe his words have captured female emotions and femininity in its purest form. His words echo similar of the great female poets before him which of whom have delved into a collection for the broken-hearted girls.

This collection is split into two equal parts titles scenes and hymns. Both of which follow the theme of heartbreak and offer key topics such as family, relationships, self-esteem, and loneliness. Whilst this collection may not be filled with complex poetry, it is still a beautiful depiction of emotions and each verse is even better than the last. Many of the poems in this collection are short with one or two lines. I personally think these are the most powerful and impactful on the reader. R. H. Sin has perfected his ability to create meaningful writing in less than ten words.

The hymns collection offers lessons on personal growth and showers the reader in a warm hug of motivation and love. For a book titled She Felt Like Feeling Nothing, the hymns section gives the reader a chance to feel confident and ready to fight. I, for one, find the stanza section to be the best writing within this whole collection.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this collection. I initially picked it up drawn to the title, I expected a book filled with despair and instead, I finished it feeling encouraged to work harder, be braver, and smile a little brighter. After reading this book I scanned through the reviews on Goodreads and was truly disappointed to see a lot of negative reviews! I think this collection deserves a chance to be read.
