Picture this, your socialite mother has dragged you to yet another party amongst a sea of power-hungry upper-classmen, and, being the polite daughter you are, you don't complain. Even though the ghastly sight of tule and sparkles is enough to make you sick. Then your mother takes your hand and leads you to the most powerful man in the room and together they loudly announce that you are now his betrothed. Excuse me? What!

That is exactly what happens to fly on the wall Persephone, daughter of Demeter the powerful businesswoman and one of the thirteen rulers of Olympus, and she is now engaged to none other than Zeus. Yeah - that Zeus, the one that has (definitely) killed his last two wives and is now looking at Persephone like he's ready to devour her and make her the new Hera. Being the child of one of the thirteen has its perks and its risks and for this character, she has had enough. The introduction to this story was like none other than I have ever read before. The instant attention-grabbing scenery and delicious drama were all cooked together into one hell of an opening. Persephone's character is delightfully sarcastic despite her quiet and meek demeanor and she quickly became a fan-favorite for me with the brilliant writing and character development.

Let's fast forward a little in the plot and meet the brooding, dark, and sexy man himself Hades. Now we all love a softie in disguise and Hades has that personality type nailed. His tragic backstory teamed with a firey passion to save those around him, then mashed together with some smoldering looks and a fetish to make you squirm, I mean, Hades is one hot character. Thankfully, Persephone agrees and they embark on an unlikely alliance. Three months of winter and Persephone will be gone, until then she must hide with Hades staying out of Zeus' terrifying reach.

What do you do to piss off the strongest man in the city? How about publicly degrading his fiancee by having her fuck you in front of Olympus' many rich and seedy gents. Before the red flags go flying in the sky let me point one thing out. Persephone is not a damsel in distress and this whole idea came from her pretty innocent, or not-so-innocent, head. Sure Hades will look after her like a lost puppy but Persephone is a siren in disguise and Hades is wrapped around her finger.

The hot and sexy romance between Hades and Persephone is a whirlwind of salacious acts and heated torment that I simply could not put down. I had been warned that this book was a naughty exception to the rule (I don't know what the rule is) but I could not believe the gripping tension and delightful moments of sincerity between these characters. I fell in love with the plot, the characters, the relationships, and the side perfect comedic timing of the side characters (Hermes is a delight).

At the time of writing this review, I have already begun book two in the Dark Olympus series and have bought all the rest! Neon Gods was the perfect start to what I'm sure will be one hell of a series.
