A mixture of broken-hearted tales and hopeless romance.

This collection came to me when I needed it the most. I was feeling down and had been succumbing to my depression in the worst way (if you have ever suffered from depression then you know that one bad day can turn into a bad week or even a bad month). I needed something to remind me how to love myself again - and whenever I feel like that I turn to poetry. Poetry has this strange effect of making me peaceful about myself and uplifting my mood in a subtle but effective way. This collection did exactly that.

Love Looks Pretty On You by Lang Lear is a heart-warming compilation of poetry that focuses on the feelings you get when you first delve into new love. From the throws of passion to the simple touch that leaves you with butterflies Lang Lear covered it all. Her words were beautiful and left their mark on my heart in a way that words could not describe. Unlike previous poetry that I have read, I wasn't on the verge of tears or wallowing in a sea of self-pity. This collection forced a smile on my lips and was entirely wholesome.

One thing I loved about the writing in particular is how easily it flowed. That may sound redundant since poetry is supposed to flow (unless the intention is for the poem to be augmented). But, my point is, the writing was consistent throughout each poem effortlessly led to the next without appearing although there wasn't a deliberate intention in its placement. I don't tend to comment on the actual structure of the poetry book, but this one truly deserves an honourable mention for how well thought out its structure was.

The writing was endearing (my word to describe it!) and brought to me at the perfect moment. I needed something heartwarming and saccharine to push away those negative vibes I had been drowning in - this collection was exactly that. A warm hug, a mug of hot chocolate with marshmallows, a Chinese takeaway when it's raining, and the feelings you get from those small acts of self-care were just the kind of comfort this collection gave.

Wholesome, heartwarming, endearing, many synonyms of the same meaning. This collection was like coming home after a long day and being greeted by an immediate sense of love.
