Review: How To Go Meat Free by Stephanie Romine

I managed to grab this quick and easy guide to a meat-free diet for 75p!

Word to describe: Helpful

Genre: Non-Fiction

As part of my new year's resolution, I decided to adopt a vegetarian lifestyle with a better success rate than last year (I cheated with chicken far too often). That meant religiously collecting cookbooks for vegan and vegetarian recipes and surviving mostly on tofu, noodles and Quorn. Whilst eating vegetarian is fairly simple, a lot of meats can be substituted very easily with Quorn products and plant-based alternatives, there were some things I still needed to learn. So when I spotted this little guide in the sale section at The Works for a penny-pinching price of 75p I couldn't resist buying it.

With 100 rules, tips, tricks and some recipe ideas this little pocket guide offers a great introduction to a no-meat lifestyle. Each section has new things to learn for example which food to get the most vitamins from. I learned that whilst vegetarian diets are high in alternative proteins they can lack iron and zinc, something I hadn't fully considered before starting my new diet last year. This fact was accompanied by a list of grains, pulses, and vegetables that are high in these vital vitamins and minerals. So like I said, this truly is a great pocket guide for all those considering changing their diet or even partaking in a longer version of the Veganuary Challenge.

One thing I loved about this book is its vibrant colour scheme and aesthetic appearance. Something I don't normally comment on, but the layout of this book is so easy to read and absorb the knowledge. With guides like this being fun to read whilst also maintaining the integrity of a non-fiction book is hard to master. Yet, this little book is a perfect example of one that catches your attention, is enjoyable to read, and still manages to hold onto its purpose.

Overall, this introduction to the plant-based lifestyle is a great one and ideal for all the people looking for inspiration this January.
