Psyche, daughter of Demeter and sister of Persephone is the odd one out in her family. Curvaceous in figure and wiser than the other children of the thirteen. She is well aware of who to avoid and who to allow in her life - which in Olympus is very few people. The new Zeus has taken over and Demeter is playing her usual tricks, trying to betroth her daughters to power and a life of servitude to the thirteen. Psyche, as kind and generous as she is, does not want the public exposure that accompanies being a daughter of the thirteen and prefers to live a quiet life focusing on her fashion and photography skills. It was all going well until she got photographed mere inches from kissing Eros, the sexy and murderous son of Aphrodite. Aphrodite, a goddess filled with jealousy and distain sets about a plan to kill Psyche at the hands of her son. Caught between duty and desire, Psyche grapples with the consequences of her entanglement with Eros and together they embark in a marriage of convenience, saving Psyche's heart and Eros' soul.

Eros and Psyche share a complex love-hate dynamic that captivates young hearts. Eros worships Psyche's beauty and wants nothing more than to have her in his arms and treasure her body. He makes it known from the beginning that his desire is barely controlled and his lust for Psyche will mean the end of them both. Psyche, unable to give into her own desires and unaware of her affect on Eros, denies those niggling feelings of attraction and forces aversion towards Eros' advances. The stereotypical conventionally attractive male falls for an unlikely partner is well written in this book avoiding the cliché of the fuller figured woman being fetishized and bullied into conforming to societies version of beauty.

Despite the obvious power dynamic between these two exceptional characters. The relationship between Eros and Psyche naturally evolves into an unlikely friendship that then matures into a relationship. Eros and Psyche have a relationship that survives on mutual respect, adoration and admiration and rivals that of fan-favourite Hades and Persephone.

The climax of the story shows readers that character growth is inevitable and those who refuse to grow will be left behind. In a way, it mirrors the long-lasting battle between good and evil within every person showing that good intentions will always bring its host a lifetime of happiness.
